The last words of Sir Berthel Brightblade

To those that follow, my sincere condolences – I hope your future bears happier
fruit and that you escape this hell. To this end heed my story.
We entered this realm at the behest of our Pendragon, long may he reign, with
confidence and high hearts. Little did we know what would befall us.
Moondragon, our cleric, fell first, disintegrated by the foul eye beast – little did
we know of the extended powers these creatures have in their own lair. Turgon
Glasseye fell next, the very walls came alive and held him as the creature turned
its’ full force upon the noble ranger 3 or 4 of its eyes flashed – and Turgon fell,
never again to walk the forests of Gondolin. As luck would have it, we discovered
a portal out of the eye beasts’ fetid labyrinth – and entered a strange, possibly fey
realm, that appeared at first peaceful. We discovered friends there, if not allies,
who warned us to leave as soon as possible. They warned us that evil creatures
came out, mostly at night. Foolishly we ignored this advice and decided to rest –
and as we battled for our lives I had time to ponder that most innocent word –
mostly. Shiv, our bard fell next – though I did not see her die, her screams as
she was dragged away will haunt me beyond death. Only myself and Honey
Fishspeaker, our mage, remained – though not for long. We found the exit portal
but the enemy pressed us and to my lasting shame Honey sacrificed himself to
save me. He levitated above the phasing enemy, intending to take off and reign
fire on them from above, a beast leapt with incredible agility and drove his tail
through Honeys chest – ending the valiant mage. In my base fear I fled through
the portal – and returned to where you now find me. I know that there are other
portals within this room, but I fear to tread them – terrified of what horror awaits
beyond. Judge me not for fleeing until you have sampled what lies within. If you
do return to Albion, I ask only that you return my holy symbol to the Oracle tell
them my tale.
Respectfully,
Sir Berthel Brightblade, Knight of the Rose, Paladin of Apollo.
